About Talk Global Study

Talk Global Study is an online event where you can talk personally by text, audio or video with senior admission staff of universities and specialised art, design, engineering and business schools from across the world. You have dedicated time to ask any questions about:

  • the application procedure and deadlines,
  • the visa process,
  • accommodation options,
  • course costs,
  • campus life,
  • how an international education can enhance your career prospects.

It’s everything you need to know about studying abroad – in just one short event!

The Event

Getting Ready for Talk Global Study

Entering an online event isn’t exactly like walking into a physical education fair, but it is similar – plus you can do it from anywhere in the world!

For a few hours, hundreds of students will be chatting with international universities, colleges and government organisations to get advice on what it takes to study overseas.

Finding the perfect overseas study destination is not an easy task, but during online events such as Talk Global Study, universities, colleges and schools from all over the world are represented and you are free to gather information, consider your options, and perhaps even begin the application process.

What could be more exciting?

You will have woken up that morning without a destination, but by the end of the day you could have begun your journey to the United States, Canada, UK, Australia, Japan, or wherever you think would suit you best.

But is that the best way to approach it? Among the excitement, it can be easy to get carried away, or to spend too much time talking to just a few admission representatives or not get the answers that you truly need.

With so many institutions available to speak with, there’s a danger that you only really end up with a surface level understanding of many of them, rather than a preferred deeper understanding of the few that truly interest you. Making the most out of Talk Global Study means you should do some planning before you (virtually) walk through those doors.

Register early!

Spaces for each event are limited so that everyone has time to talk with all the universities and education institutions they want to, so make sure you apply and complete your registration as soon as possible.

Check your email regularly too, as you’ll be sent some really important details about the event in the days leading up to it such as the catalogue with a list of all the participating international institutions as well as the live webinar schedule.

Do your research

The first thing you should consider before registering for Talk Global Study is the list of participating institutions and which ones you are most interested in.

Consider the event like a huge buffet – there is lots on offer, but it isn’t necessarily wise to try and eat everything. Take a look at what is available and narrow down the list to your favourites. You will receive a catalogue with a list of institutions in advance and they are also listed on the event website.

You may even want to take some time to visit the websites of the institutions which most interest you so you already know a lot of information before you chat personally with them and then you can use that time to find information you could not find earlier online.

Prepare some questions

While researching, consider writing up a brief list of questions to ask. By asking each school similar questions, you will get a far better understanding of each’s benefits.

For example, rather than ask questions about class size, instead ask what the most popular courses are. In this way, you can see which courses that institution is strongest at. Avoid asking something like “How good is this course?” since college representatives will always paint a positive picture of the courses they provide. Instead ask about the location, or the main focus of the course.

If you are undecided about which degree or subject you would like to take, you can ask about the services and support an institution is able to supply, or if there are options to defer choosing a major course – it’s not uncommon for students to take classes in several subjects at first, for example, or switch degrees after some time in a course.

You can also ask about extracurricular activities, the type of student that the college is looking for, or any other concerns you may have.

Have the right device

During online events such as Talk Global Study, you can chat with representatives via text, video or audio. Before joining the event, consider whether your device is appropriate for use. No matter whether you use a phone, a laptop, a home computer, or something else entirely, check to make sure your device is fully charged and the microphone and camera have been turned on. If it is going to be noisy around you, make sure you have headphones to hear properly or better still, find a quiet place where you will not be disturbed.

Most importantly, make sure you are in a place with a strong Internet connection. It can be frustrating for everyone involved if you keep cutting out or get disconnected.

Prepare for the day

During  Talk Global Studythere are live webinars or information sessions. These are given by experts or government organisations and can give you essential information to help you choose the perfect overseas course. Double check the schedule so you make sure you don’t miss out.

When it comes to your meetings, as well as understanding which institutions are attending and having some questions ready for them, it is important to make good notes of your conversations. You can do this right after each conversation, so it acts like a record of your discussion. It can also be a good idea to have a pen and paper handy just in case.

After Talk Global Study is over

After the event, you may feel a little tired from chatting to so many people in such a short time. That’s perfectly normal! Over the following days, you should read through the notes you made as well as the details of the places that particularly interested you.

With hindsight and a fresh perspective, you can revisit your thoughts and see what truly fascinates you. Perhaps you have thought of some new questions that you would like answered. Now you can continue the process by contacting the institution or representative directly – who usually will have given you their contact details or sent you an email..

No matter what you decide, taking time to participate in Talk Global Study is an essential step if you are truly serious about finding your perfect overseas course, so register now for Talk Global Study. Remember places are limited!

Step 1

Register for the event. You’ll create an account on the Brazen platform (our software partner) and verify your email – don’t forget to check your spam folder.

Step 2

You will receive a special email with instructions on how to access our event platform.

  • Tip – Add the event link into your calendar!

Step 3

On the event day, you can login from the link in your email and start chatting. We recommend you login at least 15 minutes before the event starts so you can look around and get additional information on the universities you like best.

  • Tip – You don’t need to download any special software. Just login from your web browser on any device.

You simply need to click on the link in your confirmation email to access the event and login.

If not, and you haven’t yet registered, you need to follow these steps:

  • Go to www.talkglobalstudy.com to register.
  • Create your account by entering your name, email and email address.
  • Verify your email by pressing the “Verify email” button sent to your email from our software provider Brazen. If you don’t see it, please check your spam.
  • Once you have done that, you will enter the system where you will have to answer a few simple questions and complete your registration.
  • Tip – You can have multiple answers to some questions like “Where would you like to study” and “What subject are you interested in?”.

In the Event Lobby you will see the institutions that are participating at the event. Scan through them and decide which booths you want to visit. Click the “Enter” button on a booth you are interested in. Once you enter, hit the button that says “Click to chat”.

By clicking the green “Chat” button at the upper right corner of your screen, you are indicating that you are interested in chatting with a representative.

Some institutions may ask you to answer a few questions about the course you are interested in before beginning the chat. If the representative(s) are busy with other students, you will be placed in a chat line and may have a short wait. During that time, you can look around the event, learn more about institutions or watch webinars.

When it is your turn to chat with a representative, you will hear a “bell” notification – this is also why you need to have the sound turned up! You press the green chat button to accept, and you will automatically be taken to the chat screen to start your conversation.

You will chat directly with a representative while on this page. Reply quickly to questions and use short sentences to maximise your time because you have a limited chat period with each representative.

Every event lasts for 4 hours. Therefore, if you are busy in the first hours of the event, you can always join it later.

In fact, you can visit as many times as you like over the 4 hours. Even if you join for an hour, you could have up to 10 chats, and then come back for more in an hour’s time.

Don’t forget to add the event date and times in your calendar!

Talking to Universities

First, make sure your camera and microphone are turned on and the sound is turned up. If you do not want to talk by video, then you can use audio chat or text messages.

After you log in and enter the event, you will see some instructions and you can watch a very short video of how the event works.

You will then enter the Event Lobby where you can see all the international universities, education institutions and government agencies. You can start talking to as many people as you want, and you can also participate in the live webinars – the schedule is always available for you to see on the right hand side of the page.

When you have finished your conversation, you will be directed to a Chat Review page.

This page will allow you to send a final message to the person you were talking with, and rate your chat. You will also be able to make comments – only visible to you – about the chat, the institution or representative.

  • Tip – It’s important to add notes and rate your chat, especially if you participate in more than one conversation.

When you are done, click the “Finish” button to return to the Event Lobby to choose who you want to chat with next.

You can access the chat history and your comments for up to 6 months by clicking “History”. To access the lobby after the event is finished, enter the event in the same way you did when it was live.

Even after the event is finished, you can still contact the institutions you have spoken with. Your chat history is saved in the specific events where the chats took place. Many will probably have sent you an email immediately after your chat so you can also talk to them that way.

To access your chat history, click on the “History” icon in the navigation bar on the left. The “History” page is where you can view the total number of chats that you participated in during the live event.

Click on a chat and you can view your rating for the representative, their profile, a booth overview, and even choose to add a note about the conversation you had. In addition, you can also view your chat summary. If you click transcript, you will see the entire text conversation too.
